If your kids are anything like mine, whenever Apple releases a new phone they add it to their list of wants. So, I decided to do a little research and compare three things about each version of this phone.
-
The Cameras
All three of the phones have the same front-facing camera; 7- megapixel which includes Face ID. The main cameras, located on the back of the phones, are different. The XR camera is a single lens with 12 megapixels. The XS and XS Max both have dual lenses with 12 megapixels. The pictures taken from all three are relatively the same, unless you are using optical zoom (XR doesn’t have that feature) or using portrait mode a lot. All three use 4k when taking videos so there isn’t any difference there.
-
iOS
All three of the phones will also be running the same operating system: iOS 12. Are you one of the ones who has been begging to have a Group FaceTime option? Well, beg no more with the new iOS 12, and you will be able to add up to 30 people to FaceTime group calls. Do not fear not being able to focus because with this new feature, you will have new controls that you will be able to adjust as you see fit. This is to help you focus on the discussion(s) at hand. The Animojis and Siri will both have an upgrade as well. Animojis will have new faces that are sure to be a hit and Siri will not be able to support even more accents, amongst other things. As usual there will be bug fixes and a few tweaks to make the iOS 12 run smoothly.

Features
These three phones will not have the following: fingerprint sensors (because they all have Face ID), RAM, expandable storage, or headphone jacks. Special features for the XR will include it being water resistant-IP67, which means it is completely protected against sand and dust and can work for approximately 30 minutes while under 15 cm-1.5 m of water. It will have the capability of a dual SIM; the nano-SIM and e-SIM, along with wireless charging, Face ID, and Animojis. Special features of both the XS and XS Max will include them being water resistant-IP68, which means they, too, are completely protected against sand and dust. They, however, can work approximately 30 minutes while under 1.5 m of water. The same amount of time as the XR, just a little further depth wise. Just like the XR, the XS and XS Max will also come with the capability of a dual SIM; the nano-SIM and e-SIM and will include wireless charging, Face ID, and Animojis, as well.
While there are other differences between the three phones, these are the ones that we looked at to help make our decision. They have a lot of similarities as well, but it will really depend on how often you use your phone, what you use it for, and the features you use the most.
