Cell phone jamming can occur when two or more phones are on the same frequency network. A cell phone jammer is basically a device that deliberately broadcasts on the same frequency as cellular phones, jamming the communication between the jamming phone and the base station. The most common of these devices are portable jamming devices that fit in the shape of a pocket, such as a lipstick case, cell phone holster, or pager pin. They are commonly used by truck drivers and airline pilots to prevent other electronic devices from interfering with their ability to function.
One type of cell phone jammer is known as an inductor-based device. An inductor is simply a coil that is part of the electronic circuit. In the case of an induction based jammer, an electromagnetic field created by an antenna picks up the induction loop and disrupts it. Because an electromagnetic field created by an induction loop is extremely smooth, the frequency response of a receiver will be irregular or random.
Another type of cell phone jammer is referred to as a signal jockey. A signal jockey is used to send a specific signal that has been identified by a base station so that another device that is not jamming the signal can detect the presence of a jammer. There are two different ways to jam a signal. The first is by intentionally jamming the signal, usually done to stop an incoming call. The second is to confuse a base station, such as by sending a different signal that the original caller expects, usually by announcing the number that the call is coming from.
Some cell phone companies have developed products that work by jamming the signal. Most of these devices are portable and made to look like cell phones. They emit a high frequency sound wave that cannot be blocked by metal or other impenetrable objects. Cell phone signal jammers are used mainly to interfere with cell phone signals to stop calls.
Other types of cell phone jammer include: Resistive-capacitor based, wherein the cell phone battery is charged from a source using an electrical supply; An inductor-based, which uses an inductor to create a bias voltage between its contacts that acts as a charge; Capacitor based, which include capacitors, transistors, diodes, and more. In the resistive-based models, the circuit consists of a series of capacitors that are biased in a certain manner so that they produce a current that cannot be blocked by metal or anything else. The inductor-based model makes use of an inductor that acts as its source of power; however, there is a buffer in between the inductor and the device so that any potential energy that might pass through will not damage the circuit. The capacitor based device is similar, except that instead of being biased, it utilizes a capacitor. To block the capacitance, all you need is to apply a voltage across the capacitor, which can become extremely hazardous.
The best way to avoid having a jammer is by not picking up or ignoring any kind of unsolicited call. If you suspect someone may be trying to jam your phone, you can: call the local police department or file a report with your local electronic intelligence (ELC) agency. The U.S. government along with state and local governments all have regulations that protect against harassment and other criminal activity, including the blocking of wireless signals. You may also contact the Federal Communications Commission to file a complaint against anyone who is illegally using your contact law enforcement or file a complaint with the local cell phone tower locator (RTL). These agencies work to regulate the use of wireless technology to prevent individuals from interfering with one another’s personal and private communication.
